Poppy - Hand Beaded Ceramic Rabbit

She carries two stories.

Turn her one way — a monarch butterfly in full flight, rendered in deep cobalt blue, burnt orange, and black seed beads across every curve of her surface. Turn her the other — red poppies blooming against midnight blue, bold and alive and unmistakable.

Poppy is a fully beaded rabbit sculpture. Every surface — not painted, not printed — covered in thousands of individual hand-placed seed beads. This is beaded art, a heritage technique passed down to me by my Cherokee grandmother, who placed it in my hands when I was young as an act of cultural memory and love.

Each bead is placed one at a time. There is no shortcut. A piece like Poppy takes weeks of slow, deliberate work — and that pace is not a limitation. It is the point. In a world that rewards speed, I make things that demand time. Things that will outlast me. Things that ask the person holding them to slow down too.

Poppy is rooted in Cherokee reverence for the living world. The monarch butterfly — a symbol of transformation and endurance. The poppy — beauty that insists on blooming. Both living on the same small form, waiting for you to discover which side you need most on any given day.

This is the only one. When she finds her home, she's gone.
